Welcome to the Bear Eye Center, the first eye care practice located in Bear, DE. Since opening in 1992, over 40,000 patients have trusted their eye care to Dr. MacKewiz. The original office moved from Governors Square Shopping Center to a free standing state of the art medical office in 1999, conveniently located on Rt. 40 between Routes 1 and 13.
Unlike the large chains, our emphasis is on "personal attention" and long-term relationships. We are a family oriented practice and we see patients of all ages, many of whom have been returning since their first visit in 1992. Thanks to many loyal patients who continue to refer friends and family, we continue to grow while several other eye care practices in Bear have closed. Unlike some offices where you see a different Doctor each time you visit, you will see the same Doctor every time at the Bear Eye Center. Although the practice is known as "Bear Eye Associates", Dr. MacKewiz is the only Doctor.
Although we provide personal attention, we realize we can't provide adequate care with out the proper instrumentation. That is why we continue to reinvest in the latest technology. Many of our testing and imaging instruments are the same ones used at major medical centers and universities such as the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. One example of this is our recently acquired scanning laser, used to image the structure of the optic nerve and monitor it for subtle changes. This is especially useful for diagnosing and monitoring glaucoma.
